Christmas 2008 closure

The Libraries will close at 3pm on Wednesday 24th December 2008 and reopen on Monday 5th January 2009. No email or phone enquiries will be dealt with during this period.
You can still renew your books online and access electronic resources during this period.

NewsFilm Online offers access to over 3,000 hours of downloadable television
news and cinema newsreels dating back to the early years of the twentieth century. The content has been selected from the huge ITN/Reuters Television

Database cross-searching now possible using SFX

Adept4Education offers a broad range of software for students, lecturers and staff in education establishments including tools for reference management, engineering mathematics, mathematical problem solving, system simulation, statistics, and much more. TVU e-Direct login required.
The library has a new subscription to the PsycARTICLES database.

PsycARTICLES, from the American Psychological Association (APA), is a definitive source of full-text, peer-reviewed scholarly and scientific articles in psychology. The database contains more than 134,000 articles from 63 journals. The library no longer has access to the PsycINFO database.

HeinOnline database of English Reports.

HeinOnline allows you to search or browse all 176 volumes of the English Reports, Full Reprint along with its "Index of Cases" and "Index Chart." This collection encompasses the decisions of the English Courts prior to the commencement of the Law Reports in 1865.

New trial to the PsycARTICLES database on the EBSCOhost platform.

PsycARTICLES is a database of full-text articles from journals published by the American Psychological Association. The database contains more than 134,000 articles from 63 journals - 50 published by the APA and its imprint, the Educational Publishing Foundation (EPF) - and 13 from allied organisations.

Dawsonera is a new e-book service provided by Dawson Books.

Dawsonera has 260+ (and growing weekly) book titles selected by the librarians at TVU. Books can either be read on-line using the Dawsonera reader or downloaded to your PC for reading off-line using a PDF reader.
Dawsonera allows copy and paste facilities (up to 5% of a title), print facilities (up to 5% of a title). Please note, copy and paste/print facilities only available on the online reader. If you download a title, you will not be able to copy/paste or print any part of the text.

New Database - GreenFILE

GreenFILE offers well-researched information covering all aspects of human impact to the environment. Its collection of scholarly, government and general-interest titles includes content on global warming, green building, pollution, sustainable agriculture, renewable energy, recycling, and more. The database provides indexing and abstracts for more than 384,000 records, as well as Open Access full text for more than 4,700 records.

Ebrary - e-book subscription ceasing on 31/5/08

Access to the ebrary e-book service will cease on 31/5/08. Please retrieve any personalised notes that you have added to the e-books before that date.
The decision to cancel the service has been taken in the light of ongoing developments in the e-book market. We will be continuing to build up our e-book collection with titles from other e-book services and publishers who are now more able to provide relevant titles. Check this page for other e-book services.

TVU now has access to the ICE Virtual Library

The ICE Virtual Library archive contains every peer-reviewed technical paper published by the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) between 1836 and 2001. The archive contains more than 18,000 illustrated papers on subjects related to civil engineering and construction by almost every leading British or British-trained engineer that ever lived. Subjects range from civil engineering and history to architecture and transportation. The JISC has licensed the ICE Virtual Library archive in perpetuity on behalf of the UK education community, making it freely available to all UK higher and further education institutions.
TVU has trial access to the BBC Motion Gallery

BBC Motion Gallery - BBC Motion Gallery is an archive clip licensing business and the BBC, in association with JISC Collections, it has developed a website allowing students and lecturers within higher and further education institutions in the UK to use BBC content for educational purposes.
The trial will run until March 28th 2008.

CINAHL and SPORTDiscus with Full Text are now on the EBSCOhost platform.

CINAHL with Full Text (Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature) is now available on the EBSCOhost platform. We have changed the subscription from Ovid because we were able to get unlimited access and full text from Ebscohost. This was a big improvement on the 4 concurrent user licence with abstracting and indexing information which was available on the Ovid platform. If you would like some training on the new interface please contact your Subject Librarian.
SPORTDiscus with Full Text is a new resource at TVU. It is the most comprehensive source of full text for sports and sports medicine journals, providing full text for 415 journals indexed in SPORTDiscus.
